Blown-In Cellulose Insulation

Blown-in cellulose insulation is primarily composed of recycled newspaper and other plant-based fibers, treated with non-toxic fire-retardant chemicals for added safety. As a denser material than fiberglass, it effectively reduces air infiltration and provides excellent thermal performance. Wet Cellulose

Wet-spray cellulose insulation uses the same core material as dry cellulose recycled newspaper treated with fire-retardants—but it’s a different application altogether, requiring its own specialized spray equipment. Unlike traditional blown-in cellulose, which is dry and loose, wet-spray is mixed with a small amount of water or adhesive at the point of application. This allows it to stick directly to open framing without the need for netting or drywall, forming a dense, seamless layer.

This method is not technically a blown-in system, it’s sprayed rather than blown, and the equipment and purpose are distinctly different. The spray process allows it to fully conform to cavities, pipes, and wiring while dramatically reducing air leaks and gaps. Once dry, it retains its form and density, helping maintain consistent thermal and acoustic performance.
